PfP trailblazers: Making a mark in their respective fields

In this month’s edition, we feature four exceptional learners from PfP schools that are part of the North Coast 1 Leadership Circle being supported by LPF Terry Dearling. Their noteworthy achievements were originally featured in the North Coast Courier, as part of Spar’s Junior Superstars segment. We also highlight the inspiring accomplishment of a member of the PfP staff team.

Grade 4 learner, Olwethu Gamede, from Tinley Manor Primary, has consistently achieved top marks in all her subjects this year. The nine-year-old has been described by her teacher as very dedicated, well-behaved, and always willing to go the extra mile with her school work.

Radha Roopsingh Primary’s Londiwe Mthethwarecently represented the Ilembe District at the KZN Youth Run. The Grade 7 learner, who trains every day without fail, is also a member of the school’s netball team and enjoys music and dance too.

Thirteen-year-old Pemphero Chirwa recently represented her school in a debating competition where she excelled. The Sizani Primary learner is a sterling English student – which is why she has taken on the responsibility to tutor the younger learners at the school.  She says that her mother is her role model.

Siyavuya Gcobeis a 12-year-old learner at RA Padayachee Primary. He recently grabbed top spot at an art and essay competition hosted by the Phamsi Museum. As the winner, he received R1,500 for himself, R500 for his teacher and R1,000 for the school. The learner’s winning piece is a drawing depicting the healing properties of blue Agapanthus flowers.

We commend these PfP schools for recognising and promoting the successes of their learners andwe are immensely proud to be associated with future change leaders Olwethu, Londiwe, Pemphero and Siyavuya.

In other news, PfP’s very own Chief Operating Officer, Jansie Rautenbach, has learnt that she has been selected by the Business Women’s Association (BWA) as a finalist in the Social Entrepreneurship category of the BWA’s annual awards. According to BWA President, Happy Ralinala, Rautenbach thoroughly impressed the panel during the interview process leading to the announcement.  The awards ceremony, in which the theme will be ‘The Economy is a Woman’, will take place on 13 September 2018.
