Job Profile: Citizen Leader Lab, Business Development Lead

Citizen Leader Lab NPC is a non-profit organisation that develops conscious leadership to build social cohesion, uplift communities and work towards achieving a just society. The organisation’s focus is mobilising active citizenship to drive positive change in education, primarily through its flagship programme, Partners for Possibility (PfP). The Business Development Lead role is critical to the success of the organization and the preferred candidate will form part of the Leadership Team.

Purpose of the Role:

The Business Development Lead’s chief responsibility is fundraising and sales. The BD Lead is expected to lead the development and execution of a strategy to increase short and medium-term sales for current programmes, enable new programmes and support growth, and increase sustained financial income and targeted organisational support. The Business Development Lead is also expected to drive recruitment activities to attract business leaders onto the PfP programme.

Job requirements:

This is a full time role. The main responsibilities are to:

  • Lead the business development team to deliver on the operational sales plan for the next twenty-four months including fundraising, PfP partnership sales and PfP business leader recruitment
  • Develop and implement a funding strategy that includes local and international donors that will enhance organisational sustainability and enable growth of the organisation
  • Support long-term sustainability by delivering a diverse range of income streams for the organisation including unrestricted funding
  • Support the development of new programmes in partnership with funders, impacted communities and relevant experts within the team
  • Keep abreast of key developments within the sector so that funder conversations remain relevant, ensure that internal presentations and proposals capture latest needs and priorities of our stakeholders
  • Attend relevant networking events and contribute to awareness of Partners for Possibility and Citizen Leader Lab
  • Work closely with Marketing & Comms to co-deliver a consolidated Marketing & Sales plan
  • Work closely with internal teams including Marketing & Comms and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning to ensure aligned messaging to external stakeholders
  • Take responsibility for fundraising events and BL recruitment campaigns e.g. Execs Back to School
  • Develop and execute a donor retention strategy
  • Develop and motivate an efficient, engaged fundraising and Business Leader recruitment team including full-time employees and part-time consultants

  • High level of integrity, commitment and perseverance with a strong organizational capability
  • Superior communication abilities including written and oral presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to, build relationship with, and collaborate with donors, volunteers, colleagues, board members and external stakeholders; demonstrated capacity to operate at a strategic and operational level
  • Networking and significant experience with high-profile networks

  • Digital skills; appreciation of technology in development and fundraising

Qualifications and experience:

  • A qualification in Sales/Marketing/Management will be an advantage
  • At least five years’ experience in Sales and Marketing (integrated sales and business development with social impact sector experience may be considered)
  • Demonstrable experience in mobilizing fundraising from corporates, major donors and international funders would be an advantage
  • At least five years of management experience
  • Experience working in a development or third-sector organisation or on social impact initiatives would be an advantage
  • Fluent in English, ability to speak additional languages would be a benefit
