PfP Blog School Leadership Forums in Cape Town and Johannesburg wrap up a successful 2018

As 2018 drew to a close, speakers at two School Leadership Forum (SLF) events highlighted the crucial role that leadership plays in the delivery of education and the success of the country

The final SLF event held this year in Cape Town was hosted in the Waterfront on 8 November. The guest speaker was prominent activist, political thinker, academic, medical doctor, businesswoman and Dr Mamphela Ramphele. Dr Ramphele probed the notion of reimagining and rebuilding South Africa in a rousing talk during which she posed sometimes difficult, but wholly necessary, questions about the ailing South African education system and the role of school leadership in rectifying it. She also called attention to the positive strides made by the past and current contingent of courageous school leaders, instilling a sense of hope and possibility.

PfP Blog Outdoor Classroom Day 2018: Celebrating the benefits of outdoor learning

The success of this year’s annual global Outdoor Classroom Day campaign has shown that teaching and learning needn’t be confined to the four walls of the classroom. Despite the inclement weather that affected some parts of South Africa on 1 November 2018, schools across the country held at least one class outdoors and showed unique South African flair and originality in the activities they chose!

Around 150,000 learners from early childhood development (ECD) centres and schools across South Africa participated this year in the event which promotes outdoor learning. The campaign’s long-term goal is for outdoor learning to become part of every school day for every child.

PfP Blog 900 business-education partnerships launched since 2011

The innovative nation building initiative recently launched its 900th business-education partnership – in just seven years – at the Peter Zongwane Primary School in Tembisa, Gauteng.

PfP Blog Art auction to raise much needed funds for PfP work

At PfP, we pride ourselves on shrinking seemingly insurmountable problems into small, easily manageable steps. That’s how we’ve been able to positively impact over 850 schools in just eight years.

We are looking to welcome more schools to the programme in 2019, but in order to stengthen our presence, we need your help in fund raising for PfP.

PfP Blog Photographers Without Borders document Gauteng PfP schools

The PfP Marketing and Communications Team hosted Seth Charter and his partner Arletta Charter, two visionary members of the Toronto-based volunteer organisation, Photographers Without Borders (PWB), in October. Their mission in South Africa: To ignite awareness around the plight of under-resourced PfP schools, and to ultimately effect change in an ethical way through capturing compelling imagery to communicate messages, share perspectives, foster cross-cultural understanding, and inspire others.

Both photographers described their experience in South Africa as ‘life-altering’ and ‘rewarding’, expressing a particular appreciation for the typical South African hospitality and warmth shown by all those they encountered.

PfP Blog Transformational growth and momentum marked at PfP annual celebration

The more than 850 powerful, impactful partnerships between school principals and business leaders across South Africa were celebrated in Sandton, Johannesburg this month.

Sizwe Nxasana, founder of the Sifiso Learning Group and Co-founder and Chairman of the National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT), was the guest speaker of PfP’s annual celebration held at the FNB Conference Centre on Tuesday 9 October, which saw partnering organisations, schools, conscious leaders and other PfP stakeholders gather to celebrate the steady growth of the programme.

PfP Blog Execs Back to School initiative a resounding success

It was back to school for the CEOs of some the country’s most prominent companies participating in the inaugural Execs Back to School day.

The CEOs and top executives form some the South Africa’s largest companies including Sasol, Vodacom, Pearson, HP, Merrill Lynch, Consol Glass, Sphere and EOH swapped the boardroom for the classroom on Wednesday, 24 October to participate in the inaugural Execs Back to School day – the first event of its kind held in South Africa. The executives spent the day at one of 27 government-run schools around Johannesburg, Soweto and Tembisa, and accompanied the school principal as they performed their daily duties.

PfP Blog Join the ever-growing PfP movement: Make a meaningful contribution to education today!

Every year, hundreds of conscious, courageous business leaders who care about education in South Africa join the award-winning leadership development and principal support programme, Partners for Possibility (PfP).

During the 12-month partnership with a principal from an under-resourced school, both participants take part in several cutting-edge, immersive leadership development experiences and then set about improving specific issues that they have identified at their school. The partnership is expertly supported and facilitated by a professional coach.
