African Bank Launches Footy Project at Blackheath Primary

African Bank in conjunction with Ajax Football Club has piloted a Footy Programme with Blackheath Primary School. This initiative has Principal Quentin Johnson very excited. “Ajax coach, Njabulo Zondi, will be training educators and parents at our school on how to coach the learners in soccer” says Quentin.

Blackheath Primary School was taken with the idea from the onset as they hope to empower educators and learners. They hope that learners will be inspired to hone their talents and skills- possibly becoming coaches, professional soccer players, sports managers or even Physical Education educators in future.

African Bank has been sponsoring the Footy Programme in 30 primary schools in the Kwa-Zulu Natal region since 2012, but this is the first time that it is taking place in the Western Cape.  African Bank has undertaken this venture in conjunction with the Coaching Development Programme to help address the many problems that coaching development in South Africa faces. Another aim of this initiative is to help improve the quality of life in developing communities and this has been met with great success. The training that has been received has directly impacted on the lives of 4500 students and 150 coaches and counting.

The workshop was a very enjoyable experience for all who attended, the school coaches particularly enjoyed working with a former professional player. Quentin believes that the training will have a positive impact on the school’s performance on the soccer pitch, taking the school to greater heights.
